D2 MFG

From the first sketch to the last bolt tightened.

New projects, repairs, improvements, and everything in between.
Cradle to grave, by one person who actually understands the whole system.

Story

There used to be people who could handle the whole thing. Not a specialist for each piece, not three vendors who don’t talk to each other. Someone who understood the mechanical world deeply enough to take any problem or project from start to finish. D2 MFG is a modern take on that.

About

I’m Dale, a mechanical engineer based in Eugene, Oregon with over a decade of hands on experience building, fixing, and developing mechanical systems and equipment.

The mechanical world isn’t a specialty I step into and out of. It’s where I live. Machines, products, systems, equipment. How they work, why they fail, what it actually takes to build and fix them. That understanding comes from a career and a life spent in the shop.

When something breaks down for a small operator or business, the fragmented model fails them. The engineer doesn’t touch the machine. The shop makes the part but doesn’t understand the system. Nobody owns the outcome. The same is true for someone with a product idea and no clear path from concept to part.

I own it. From the first conversation to the finished result, engineering, building, and everything in between. One person accountable for the whole job.

Typical Fit

  • Equipment is down and the dealer can’t get there for two weeks
  • A part is obsolete, unavailable, or needs to be reverse engineered
  • Something works, but not reliably or not the way it should
  • A fix exists but it’s a workaround, not a real solution
  • Custom components are needed and no one else can make them
  • The problem doesn’t fit a clean category and no one else wants to touch it
  • A new product needs to go from concept through prototype to production-ready parts
  • A new piece of equipment, fixture, or tooling needs to be designed and built
  • An existing process works but needs to be improved or scaled
  • A system needs modification, improvement, or automation

How It Works

Every job follows the same principle. No gaps, no handoffs, no “that’s not my part of it.” Most of the work stays in house. What doesn’t is still my responsibility.

Assess → Understand → Engineer → Build → Install → Working
01

Assess & Understand

Start at the beginning. Whether something is broken or something new is needed, the first step is understanding what’s actually required. The system, the constraints, the real goal.

02

Engineering & Design

Develop the solution. CAD, tolerancing, material selection, process planning. Whatever the job actually requires.

03

Fabrication & Manufacturing

Machined, fabricated, welded, molded, or printed. Most of it done here, all of it managed directly.

04

Installation & Commissioning

Put it together and make sure it runs. The job isn’t done until the result matches the goal.

Describe the problem or the project. Photos, dimensions, sketches, or a plain description. Whatever you have. If it’s urgent, say so.

What to expect

A real response, not a form letter. If it’s something we can help with, we’ll say so directly and talk through next steps. If it’s not a fit, we’ll tell you that too.
